“Two years have gone, and we are still in the line:” Migrant mothers’ healthcare experiences in NZ

Interviews with 24 Chinese and Indian migrant mothers living in NZ found they had limited awareness of the services available for themselves and their children, and experienced difficulties navigating NZ’s “complex and fragmented” health system. Most of the mothers were disappointed that basic diagnostic tests were not conducted by NZ doctors when their children were sick. Some even preferred to travel back to their home country to receive care because of their trust in the doctors, and because it was easier and faster to access care. The research team makes several suggestions on how to improve access and quality of care.
