Making NZ’s aerospace sector more sustainable

Surveys of people working in NZ’s nascent aerospace sector reveal the field currently doesn’t put a lot of weight into environmental sustainability or compliance with Te Tiriti o Waitangi in comparison to economic growth. The research team behind the surveys found there are few incentives to go greener, and that the industry is overall siloed from others – meaning a lack of partnership with Tangata Whenua and overall diversity in the workforce. However, the author team says government support can drive sustainability practices and incentivise industry growth, while the industry itself can take advantage of sustainability constraints for innovation and greater countability.
